According to the latest report to be published on the growth of UK online gambling, feelings that the industry is on the up again have been proved well justified as a record number of players try out sites and products.

The study, which was commissioned by Nielsen Media Research, reports that the growth in UK players who have played on an online casino or poker site in the past year is as big as a 40 percent increase since 2025-2025.

That 40 percent equates to roughly 3.2 million new customers joining the existing core of UK online casino patrons – a figure that is higher than the number of new sign-ups to websites like Facebook and Twitter for the same period.

Poker has also benefitted from the surge of new players, with PartyPoker recording 870,000 new recruits in that timeframe for a yearly growth of 174%, while their site in general – including Party Casino – accrued a total of 1.2 million new sign-ups.

"Online poker sites have experienced a huge increase in customers over the past decade," explained one industry analyst. "Playing poker on the internet has become even more popular than land based poker games held at casinos throughout the world. It has become somewhat of a phenomenon".
